Here is a little bit about me for those interested
Education and Experience
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor licensed to practice psychotherapy in Colorado. I earned my Master of Arts degree in Counseling from Denver Seminary and therefore I understand the principles of theology and psychology. My practicum at Denver Counseling Center and internship at Colorado Christian University provided me with a wide range of experiences working with elementary-aged children, college students, newly married couples, and military service members and their spouses.
I've worked in a group home that housed teenage boys with developmental disabilities and mental illness. I currently work to serve patients with severe mental illness for the State of Colorado.
I was honored to have spent eight years in the US Army Reserves including a 12-month tour in Iraq and Kuwait. I know the stress involved with being in the military and with deployments.
Counseling Approach
I primarily work from cognitive behavioral and solutions-focused perspectives. I can help show how our thoughts, emotions, and actions are connected and will teach ways to manage unhelpful actions. I see myself as a guide, to help people identify changes they are willing and able to make to live their best lives. I will point out your strengths and help you feel valued and encouraged to make changes.
People often describe my approach as warm and caring, which creates a trusting environment for making changes.
My goal is to help you uncover the solutions and goals that you want and to teach you how to manage stress, anxiety, and doubts, to help you become more of who you want to be and not what others say you should be.
